Further designs

This is the concept I have for the other side that you will see when you first approach the work, hiding the people stacked upon one another with the buildings facades.

Scale up for concrete

I had to scale up (with help from my friend Claire as I am completely useless with numbers) to create the box mould. It is being left over the weekend so should result in no crumbling of the corners.

Fabrics designs

I want to create large images of structures and buildings on fabric and feel that through the equipment available to me from home and the college this would not be possible.  So have started to experiment with lining paper and spray paint and have liked the effect. I've used glue dots to attach the paper to fabric and am not always getting the clean lines required.  Think I might try next with masking tape.
The sky blue I used to represent the idea of a better tomorrow which at the time was seen as being possible through architecture. The cream I feel blends well qith the natural calico and lends a nice effect in working together.

More on interlocking slabs

After discussing my ideas with Tam (the old boy from next door) he pointed out the strains and weak points in my designs, and have narrowed it to the most viable idea. He also stressed that if I want the blocks to be interlocking then it was very important to get the moulds as spot on as possible, and that he did not have the equipment to help me. Through a mutual friend from the college he suggested I speak with mark cruise a lecturer in joinery so that is where I'm heading just now.

Further development ideas

This sketch described an idea I had of creating large timber frames (between 6-10 ft high) that would house directional light and be covered with fitted calico that was printed on the reverse. This would only allow the light to expose the prints on the exterior for the spectators.  They would sit on interlocking concrete slabs that would be detailed with images from the craft foam. This may be to time consuming but really feel I am now on the right track for the final.

Repeat pattern

Repeat pattern designs for cement slabs.

Tower block

I feel that this is a good description of the living conditions within the tower. People stacked upon one another continuing for 20 plus floors.  Original I intended to use silk screen to show this but feel the effect of the craft foam help to create a more claustrophobic atmosphere.
