Wood cut / Wood block prints

Loch Awe in Argyll Scotland is a truly magnificent place.
While staying there I took inspiration from the young girls in Wellington boots throwing stones in the water just along from the ruins of Kilchurn Castle as the sun set behind the hills and mountains. in creating this image I show the beauty that is innocence in a place that is timeless.
the image is hand carved into Ash wood before being varnished and prepared to print. each image is created by carefully applying an even coat of Blue oil ink to the wood before gently pressing in to the delicate cotton Japanese paper, then allowed up to a week to dry.
23 x 14 cm (9 x 5.5 inches) item is available with frame on request at an additional charge.
The Grain of the wood used is visible on the print adding authenticity to its production and is signed.

if you are intrested in any of these prints please follow the link bellow ;

manufacture application to etsy

Describe yourself and your business
I am a self-employed artist based in Stirling, Scotland, who completed a HND in Contemporary art in 2011 and BA in art and design last year.   My work has social and spiritual meaning behind it. I work in a very fluid manner allowing the work to influences me just as much as I influence it.  I enjoy working with patterns and with multiple prints and at the moment am looking in to printing on fabric which is a material I have worked with time and time again at college and university.
My subjects are always social or spiritual things I have felt strongly about. Some of the social aspects I have covered include poor working conditions in third world countries, HIV or the Scottish independence debate.  In the more spiritual aspect of things I have looked at is Aristotle’s cave, utopian dreams and at the moment I am working on the battle of faith.
I do a lot of research of an idea before committing to it fully. Once I know I have gathered enough initial research I then move on to the development side and draw sketch print and paint then scan the images and develop them further digitally.
I am just starting out and registered with HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Costumes) in December.  I do not employ anyone and it is just I who creates all the ideas.
Describe How one of your items are made

I develop a product by first researching the subject which is often harder than it seems. For example the battle of faith first came from a dream I had about wings fighting fire. It came to me a few nights after reading the book of revelation and watched a friend at a cage fight.  So I looked at traditional angelic images and read more in to the mythology of angels and looked to cage fighting for models then looked at the wings of birds of prey.  From the knowledge and images I gather I start to sketch, paint, print, and scan then develop further digitally again and again till I find the design. This design became what I would then take forward and initially I looked at curtain and cushion design but have had a few requests for scarves so focused there.
I then looked for a company I felt to be ethical in there working but also affordable that could produce a few example or prototype scarves.   ArtofWhere fitted the bill so using there easy to use website and making sure that all my writes to the image was still up held I tried several different lay outs before committing to one. I decided on 100% silk habotai fabric as it is a more luxurious material and would be most flattering to my design. ArtofWhere also uses only natural fabrics and inks which appealed to me greatly.  I had ordered from other companies but found none could compare to ArtofWhere.  Only after I reserved the product and was impressed by the quality I decided to order more so over all everything was of my choosing.

this is my rough draft to Etsy;

Tell us about the company

Name ArtofWhere

Describe manufacture
There were 3 deciding factor in choosing the Canadian/American based ArtofWhere.  1 was the range of fabric products they could produce using all natural fabrics and inks that are eco-friendly.  My biggest audience is in America so it also helps to cut the carbon footprint for delivery as they do drop shipping.  2 was the fact that Artofwhere could produce the product from start to finish without any outside interference, keeping the production much simpler and clearer.   3 was the value for money as I could not find anything in the UK that could guarantee the standards of production or natural sources without the price nearly tripling and that includes on delivery.
Though my history with the company is brief I have found them give them 100% genuine in all my dealings with them. ArtofWhere also have a great reputation as a business and have received top marks from their reviews. Each order also come with care instructions so the customer can be confident in the care of them.
To ensure the quality of items I design I always order a few first to make sure the quality is consistent. Once they have passed my own approval I’ll allow the product to go public.

silk scarves

Art of where did not disappoint, the new scarves are beautiful!!!
the grey hue of the background looks silver and the images are so delicate, though I only have 6 I feel they will sell well as one has already been sold in the first hour. Iv priced them at £25 each with £3 delivery charge anywhere in the UK.
I haven't posted any on  Etsy yet as I am still completing the manufacturing application.

Interiors

I have designed cushions with the battle of faith printed on them on the Art of Where (AOW) and though I have tried to find a company closer to home they can not compete with the price range and ethics of AOW.  the shipping is quite expensive from AOW as it is based in canada but it still is working out cheaper than any of the UK based companies.
I really want to create fabric to go with the cushions but am finding that the image is not loading. the image is of the right size but has not loaded for 2 days now. at first I thought it might have been the weather interfering with the wi-fi as its jumped between high wind and heavy snow but the rest of the site seems to be working fine. if the problem has not been resolved by this afternoon Ill email the them.
It would be nice to have a fabric to go with the cushions as I could then create curtains to go with the cushions.
I am also checking out a UK based company called Woven Monkey for fabrics. they don't create anything but fabrics so might be my next port of call if I cant get any where with AOW.
