Craft

Theo Jansen (kinetic artist)

Holland

3d printer, pvc tubing, wind powered “strandbeests” evolve a life of their own.

 Work created for the beach.

He has used technology to further his work.
Tracey Emin

London

Hand stitching seems to be more important than machine sewing. Makes it just as personal as the subject. Hand sewing and quilt making is also a traditional craft used by women. She turns this tradition into something new.

Emily Bellhouse

England

Glass sculptures set in an outdoor environment, reflecting aspects of the space its self.

Fine art

Chiharu Shiota

Japanese artist based in Berlin

Installation artist who focuses on dreams, memories, life and death. Her work very often engulfs the place in which it is set, creating an entirely new environment.

Monika Grzymala

Polish artist based in berlin

Works in very linier forms to create a sense of flow and direction within an interior environment.  Works mostly with tape and paper.

David Nash

English working in wales

Environmental artist working wood, trees and nature. The trees he works with often split bend and crack once taken out of there environment and he works with this to shape the end result of his work.  Nash often places these trees back in the outdoors in their own environment.  This is significant because he is working with nature and is environmentally aware of the source of his work.

Visual communication

Bill Viola

From New York lives and works in California

The godfather of video art his work often reflects life death and spirituality and that of human nature. His work is often what the other inspiring video artists look to and all of his work has a sentiment of spirituality.

Barbra Kruger

USA

Video, bill boards, projections, typography  and many more.  Works typically in red, white and black strong colours often associated with communist states, she make statements on modern consumerist living and asks if it really is a democracy we live in.

‘EDDIE’

Originally designed by Derek Riggs for ‘iron maiden’ the brand of Eddie has been worked on by many other artists such as Melvyn Grant Ed Hunter and many others.  Not only dose Eddie appear on album covers but on stage design, merchandise, plains and video games the story of Eddie has kept fan enthralled as to what happens next. Eddie is to iron maiden as the big red T is to Tennents lager. The reason I find Eddie interesting is that even though Derek Riggs is no longer working with the band they still own Eddie. And I believe that after the band is gone Eddie will live on.  Who knows maybe Disney will buy him.

my future

throughout my BA art and design degree I hope to pass all for this year and next as do many of my peers within my class, however I then want to go on to a teaching degree as dose Scott and Louise is considering it however I am hoping not to go on to high school teaching but rather lecturing instead, this way I can work part time say 2 to 3 days a week and still continue with my personal practice.

From my personal practice I hope to go on to create my own business as dose Karen.  In order to do this I must clear with the housing agency permission to (A) convert attic in to studio or build 1 out the back door, and (B) permission to run a business from the house. Both of which must be raised with them in case of use of chemicals, which I do not plan to use but best to keep everything above board.

I hope to have permission to have this done before the end of January to mid-February, and then to have a space completed between the end of February and the middle of March. by the end summer 2013 I want to have approached the local business enterprise to understand the running of a business and will have my studio set up as a working business, and between getting the space sorted and the business set up I hope to have bought in enough equipment for it to be recognised as a simple printmaking studio. After that it is about self-promotion whilst still paying as much attention as possible to my studies. By the time it comes to getting a job my experience is enough that somebody will employ me.

Many in my class want to travel in the future where as I hope to emigrate by 2017 to New Zealand or Australia both of which I have family in which with my experience I am hoping gives me enough points for a visa. Before this time I need to find out about contents and business insurance and hopefully learn to drive.
